Some of the reasons people mistreat their relationships are as follows:

  • They are suffering from a mental ailment.

Seeing individuals in pain brings satisfaction to the anti-social personality disorder. For them, abuse is a means to an end. They prey on others for their own entertainment.

  • They'd been mistreated.

Some abusers project their dysfunctional behavior onto others because it was done to them.

  • They were looking at something.

As technology advances, children are exposed to more images of abuse at a younger age. Some films, songs, TV shows, and videos make light of abuse or portray it as usual.

  • They have a tendency to erupt in wrath.

Abuse is usually the outcome of unrestrained and poorly handled rage.

  • They were raised by an alcoholic father.

An addict blames others for their damaging acts. While victims are usually obliged to remain silent and endure their perpetrators' behavior.

  • They have no idea of limits.

Abusive people typically don't understand where they end and another person begins. They consider their spouse/child/friend to be an extension of themselves, and hence that person has no right to set restrictions.

  • They are frightened.

Fearful people prefer to use their emotions to argue why another person must do what is asked.

  • They are completely bereft of empathy.

It is much easier to abuse people when there is no empathy for how the victim may feel.

  • They have a personality disorder.

A person's personality type does not always suggest that they will be abusive.

  • They are exhausted.

When a person reaches the end of their rope, it is natural for them to lash out at others around them.
