What are some specific examples of how a Cosmologist uses mathematics in his/her job?

in cosmology you learn something new about space as cosmic means space in space what do you see sun Jupiter earth bla bla and bla they all are calculated the mass distance and many more. I am in ninth class though don't mind this though if it is wrong plzzz.
