UV rays are classified into three groups depending on the wavelength range as follows:

  • UV - A rays: (315 - 400 nm)
  • UV - B rays: (280 - 315 nm)
  • UV - C rays: (100 - 280 nm)

Discovered by:

  • Johann Wilhelm Ritter in year 1801

Uses of UV rays:

  • Killing Bacteria (used in aqua-guards).
  • Phototherapy
  • Purification of waterLamps (called UV lamps)
  • Sterilisation and disinfection
