We need standard unit for measurement to make our judgement more reliable and accurate. For proper dealing, measurement should be same for everybody. Thus there should be uniformity in measurement. For the sake of uniformity we need a common set of units of measurement, which are called standard units. Nowadays Si units in science and technology almost accepted universally.

• In the United States, inch, foot, yard, and mile are the standard units of length. Millimeter, centimetre, metre, and kilometre are all common units in the metric system.
• The United States utilises ounces, pounds, and tonnes as its standard units of weight. Grams, kilogrammes, and tonnes are used in the metric system.
• The seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, and years are the universally accepted units of time.
• Cups, pints, quarts, and gallons are the United States' standard units of volume. The fundamental forms of the litre are used in the metric system.
