To make a herbarium of a plant following steps are followed :
- At first the portion of the plant which you are going to herbarium is taken . In general for a tree small twigs or leaves are taken and for herbs or shrubs the whole plant is taken .
- Then the sample is dried under the sun for say 4-5 hours .
- Then it has to be taken and pressed between a newspaper with a good amount of weight .
- The newspapers have to be replaced in a time interval of 2 days .
- Process 3 and 4 are repeated for 3 times .
- Then the sample have to be pasted to the herbarium sheet by using glue or cellotape .
- Then in the herbarium sheet the date of collection , name of the plant , portion of the plant all have to be mentioned .
Now you're herbarium is ready.
