A stereotype is an over-generalisation.This is often made onhistorical informationand ideas. Many times, these generalizations are negative, but not always. To say all Native Americans are drunkson welfare who work at casinos is a stereotype. Yes, many tribes have casinos, and yes, historically, Native Americans were recipients of government welfare when they were first moved via insurrection to reservations. And yes, a characteristic of Native Americans is they tend to have a higher incidence for alcoholism (which again alcohol was part of the government handoutsthey were given on reservations). But to make a sweeping statement as if these were the only things to be said about Native Americans is not only incorrect, damaging, and racist, but just plain close minded. Native Americans are everything else that everyone else is. They are artists, doctors, engineers, farmers, military officers, teachers, business people, restauranteurs, fashion designers, musicians, professors, etc., etc.Now a misleadingly positive sounding stereotype is that everyone from Sweden is a buxom platinum blonde with creamy skin. The fact is there are brunettes, redheads, and every other color haired Swedes. Not all of the females are especially endowed with large breasts, and not all have pale skin, though deep toned Swedes are rare. Even though this stereotype appeared to be positive, it would be excluding those Swedes who don't look like that. Exclusion is one of the negative things about stereotypes. Excluding all the group or using all the group to be an exclusive representation is bad.It makes some standfor all or all not include all.Not all Indians (from India, not Native Americans) are computer programmers who are good at math and are skinny. It just so happens that Asians prove to have higher mathematical ability on standardized tests, and such abilities lend themselves well toward STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) subjects. As poverty is common among Indians, most people have very meager meals, but that doesn't mean you won't find an morbidly obese creative writing majorwho can't balance hercheckbook in India.

- Stereotype is an over-generalized belief about a particular category of people.[1] It is an expectation that people might have about every person of a particular group. The type of expectation can vary; it can be, for example, an expectation about the group's personality, preferences, or ability.
- Stereotypes what women can or cannot do affect women's right to equality by forcing the society to gave them certain roles and not allow others . This is unequal treatment because the choice of the women is not considered and she is not free to do what she wants...
