Stominum is the thin-walled cells of the annulus marking the line or region of dehiscence of a fern sporangium.

The inner tangential walls are unable to stretch as the anther matures, because of fibrous thickenings but the outer walls are thin and hygroscopic because of which they can expand by absorbing water as the anther matures. Thus, Endothecium are hygroscopic in nature.
