Sedimentary rocks when get deposited in depressions tend to occur in layers or strata and with a probability of containing fossils. Hence they are called stratified rocks.

Stratified rocks are nothing but sedimentary rocks. Strata means layers. These rocks are formed due to deposition of items such as sand and silt near the river beds. Later, these form layers on top of each other. Thus they are called as stratified rocks. sandstonesiltstone, and shale are some examples of these kind of rocks.
