Surds are the irrational root of an integer.
When we can't simplify a number to remove a square root (or cube root etc) then it is a surd.
A surd is a square root which cannot be reduced to a whole number.
√2 = 1.414..... , √3 = 1.732.... and √5 = 2.32.......
