Tectonic plates are pieces of Earth's crust and uppermost mantle, together referred as the lithosphere. The plates are around 100 km or 60 miles thick. They are of two types based on their material composition -
I) Oceanic Crust (Sima from silcon and magnesium)
II)Continental Crust (Sial from silicon and aluminium)
