Heat is generated due to the radioactive process in the interior of the earth. It tends to reach the surface of the earth by generating convectional currents. These upward currents break the upper layers which break into large pieces which are known as "TECTONIC PLATES"

There are seven major tectonic plates. These are:
•Pacific plate
•North American plate
•South American plate
•European plate
•African plate
•Indo-Australian plate
•Antarctic plate

PLATE BOUNDARIES

==》Based on the relative movement between two types of plate boundaries. They are as follows :-

● CONVERGENT BOUNDARY :-

In this case, the two adjacent tectonic plates moves towards each other.

● DIVERGENT BOUNDARY

in this case, the two adjacent plates move away from each other.

● TRANSFORM BOUNDARY

in this case, the two adjacent plates move along their boundary.

==》Due to divergence and convergence process, folding and faulting take place and Due to the movement of these plates over millions of years, shape of landforms as we as their locations have changed.

==》The process of divergence is responsible for all the tectonic and volcanic activities on the earth.

==》Over a period, the "INDO-AUSTRALIAN PLATE" started drifting towards north. It is believed that this plate collided with large European plate before about five years.

==》Due to the collision between Indo-Australian plate and the European plate, the Himalayan mountain system emerged out of Thethys sea
