Tehsildar is the administrative officer responsible for administration and collection of land revenue at the level of tehsils or taluks and is appointed by the government. They are the revenue officers under the district collector.
Their functions are:
a. They have to ensure that land records including land assessment, land acquisition are kept properly.
b. Have to ensure proper collection of land revenue, income tax and other dues.
c. District collectors and his revenue officers also hear land disputes.
d. They make sure all records are easily accessible to the villagers like caste certificates etc.
Tehsildars use blue beacon in UP, but it is not authorized, as per recent supreme court ruling blue beacon can now be used by only by police and emergency services.
As per the routine their is no security, but can ask for under threat situations.
In India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, a tehsildar is a tax Officer accompanied with Revenue inspectors. They are in charge of obtaining taxes from a tehsil with regard to Land Revenue. A Tahsildar also known as Executive Magistrate of the tehsil concerned.
