Tethys Sea was a water body that existed before the Indian landmass (part of Gondwana) and collided with the Eurasian landmass, it sustained in between the two landmasses before the formation of Himalaya. (Although theories say that it sustained for a while after the formation of Himalaya too... That is the reason why certain sea-bed fossils are found on the Himalayas even today... )
