Solute and solvent are 2 components of solution. Solute is the substance which is present less in amount and is dissolved in solvent. While solvent is more in amount in which the solute in dissolved.

For example, in salt solution,
salt in present in less amount hence it is solute while water that is present in larger amount is the solvent
