Plato, an Athenian philosopher during the Classical period in Ancient Greece, believed that the soul consists of three hierarchical parts—appetitive, rational, and spiritual.
On the same lines, he was of the idea that even a society comprises of three classes--
1. The guardians who are the philosophers charged with governing the republic. They are the rulers or philosopher-kings.
2. The auxiliaries viz., soldiers who defend the republic. They epitomize physical strength, spiritedness, and a love for learning
3. The producers who are the craftsmen, farmers, artisans, etc.
Hope it helps!
