The gram sabha is equal to the panchayati raj and village developement. Gram sabha is used to discuss the affairs of the village which cases cannot be brought directly in courts.

The Five main features of gram sabha are as follows :-

•It is constructed in every village with a population not less than 1500.
•It consist of all adult citizens of the village.
•The State government decides on the number of 'panchas' according to the population of the village. The number generally varies between 7 and 15 members.
•The members are elected on the principle of Adult Franchise.
•A sarpanch is the head of gram sabha and can be removed if 2/3 of the panchas vote against him/her.
