The nine characteristics of living things are:

1)living things can breathe
          EXAMPLE : animals breathe through respiratory organs and plants through                              stomata
2)living things may or may not walk 
          EXAMPLE : trees do not walk but animals do
3)living things respond either slowly or or readily
          EXAMPLE : plats respond slowly to their stimuli but animals respond                                  quickly
4)living things eat
          EXAMPLE : animals obtain there food from plants and other animals but                              plants make their own food
5)living things have a life span
          EXAMPLE : all the living beings take birth and die in a given interval of                                time
6)living things are made of cells
          EXAMPLE : all the living organisms are made of cells no matter how                                    small or big the organism is
7)living things reproduce
          EXAMPLE : all of them reproduce through sexual or asexual means of                                reproduction 
8)living things grow
          EXAMPLE : plants, animals or microbes  grow nd develop
9)living things excrete poisnous wastes
          EXAMPLE : living beings excrete the waste in their body in form of stools droppings urine etc.
