What are the ABC’s of stress management? Explain.
Answers
Albert Ellis created the ABC Model, which Martin Seligman modified to encourage more positive thinking.
The ABCs of stress management are:
A: The stressful situation or adversity
B: Your beliefs or how you react to the situation
C: Results of the event's acts and consequences
ABC’s of stress management:
- Unconsciously, pessimistic people feel that the causes of negative events are permanent, whereas optimistic people think that negative events are transient.
- When anything goes wrong, pessimists generalise about their life, whereas optimists make precise predictions.
- There are two ways we can interpret a bad thing that happens to us.
- We are responsible for the situation (internalizing it).
- Alternately, we might place the responsibility elsewhere (externalizing it).
The method is based on our explanation-based writing style. This refers to the ways in which we justify challenging or stressful circumstances to ourselves in terms of permanence, pervasiveness, and personalization. These beliefs have a direct impact on how we see the incident, ourselves, and the wider world.
