The European Union (EU) is supranational and intergovernmental union of 27 states in Europe. It was established in 1992 by the Treaty on European Union (The Maastricht Treaty) and is the de facto successor to the six-member European Economic Community founded in 1957

Some of the achievements of European Union are:
- It was successful in creating one of world's biggest markets and has provided employment and good working and living standards to more than 500 million people in Europe.
- It has also won Nobel Peace Prize for promoting peace and harmony in world, especially in the Middle East. And has also played an important role in promoting safe and sustainable environmental activities.
EXPLANATION:
- The present European Union was formed by Treaty of Rome which was signed by European nations like Italy, France, Luxembourg, Netherlands and then West Germany on 25th March 1957 to promote free and liberal markets and hence to create an environment which favors trade and commerce in this area.
- According to treaty, people of member countries can move freely from one country to another without any visas or approvals for trade, education, etc. Presently there are around 28 members of EU.
- It has made various achievements in process and some of them are providing jobs and employment opportunities to nearly 500 million people across Europe. It has also won Nobel Peace Prize for promoting harmony in the area and has also made programs for regulating sustainable development.
