Daffodils

I wandered lonely as a cloud’ better known as ‘Daffodils’ is a very popular poem by the greatest poet of the Romantic Age-William Wordsworth.

Wordsworth was a great Nature lover. Once when he was walking with his sister, Dorothy, around Glencoyne Bay, Ullswater, in the Lake District he came across a string of daffodils. The poet was so mesmerised by the yellow-golden flowers that he composed the poem foregrounding it with adjectives to describe the beauty and glory of the flowers.

The main adjectives used by Wordsworth to describe the daffodils are:

Golden to describe the colour and their majesticity,

Continuous to describe the continuity as comparable to the stars in the Milky Way galaxy,

Never-ending to foreground the continuity,

Sprightly describes their lively spirit

Jocund meaning merry and in high spirits.
