• The ‘Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha’ are the two houses of parliament.  

• The Lok Sabha is the ‘lower house’ and consists of 545 members who are elected by the people of the country through direct election for ‘five years’ or until it is dissolved by the President.  

• ‘Rajya Sabha’ is the upper house which is a permanent house and it consists of ‘250 members’ of which ‘238 members’ are representatives of various states and ‘union territories’ of India and ‘twelve members’ are nominated by the ‘President’.

• The lower house is the working house which has more powers and members than the ‘upper house’.
