1. There is an increased productivity per unit area.

2. There is no mixing of Crop produce of different crops because seeds of crops are sown separately.


3. Since the field is not left uncovered for long period it helps to check soil erosion.


4. The time and Labour of farmers is greatly reduced.

5. Which crop can be easily harvested, threshed and marketed separately.

1. It increases soil fertility

2. it reduces soil erosion.

3. it reduce the need for fertilizers.

4. It also helps in controlling weeds

5. it controls the growth of pathogens in crops.

6. it controls the growth of pests in crop.

7. it fixes nitrogen in the soil.

8. To effectively utilise the space

9. To freely use solar energy for the Source of income.( perennials take some more time to generate income )


now, what is intercropping ?
Answer - Its a type of mixed cropping, in which more than one crop is grown.Every alternate row has that extra crop along with the main crop.For example : Onion in Coconut field or some gourds in Papaya field. Here Coconut and Papaya are the major crops, Onion and Gourds are intercrops. Sometimes some symbiotic plants are grown in between the main crops.

now , what are the advantages of having intercrop?
Answer - 1. If the main crop is damaged, the inter crop will be the life saviour of the farmer.

2. The land exposed will be less, if an intercrop is added, there by reducing the weed growth.

3. The run off can be reduced.

4. Soil erosion can be decreased.
