The caste system is the classification of social statuses. It was used as the Aryans founded settlements across India. There are both advantages and disadvantages of the caste system. One advantage to the caste system was its ability to form close communities and groups of people. Because it divided people by their occupation level, others of that same label would come together. Jatis formed as subsections of the caste system. People within these jatis would intermarry and care for each other. It also allowed foreign peoples to find a place in the society. However, there were also disadvantages. It was very difficult to move up in social classes. If one was in a lower social class, such as the untouchables, or even the shudras, they would be looked down upon in society. There are both advantages and disadvantages of the caste system.
