Advantages and Disadvantages of Fragmentation are given below:
Fragmentation is a type of Asexual Reproduction in which a parent organism breaks into various fragments and each fragment is capable of growing independently into a new identical organism.
The advantages of Fragmentation are as follows:
- It is asexual reproduction, hence only one parent is involved. There is no need for mating between male parent and female parent.
- As fragmentation is a very fast process of reproduction, a higher number of off-springs are reproduced within a short duration of time.
The disadvantages of Fragmentation are as follows:
- As we know, fragmentation is a type of asexual reproduction, the genes and traits passed are so identical and there is no variety of genes.
- As there is no genetic variance, they might have to struggle to survive as the genetic disorder passed are also identical
