Rusting is a natural occurrence where iron tends to form a more stable compound in the environment by reacting with oxygen in the air to form an iron oxide.The rusting of iron is more of a disadvantage than an advantage. Rusting forms an iron oxide which is more brittle than the iron. It less resistance to environmental degradation and permeability by water and air, therefore cannot be used for coating.
