If a number of devices are connected in parallel circuit then if one of the appliances become faulty, it does not affect the working of other appliances, whereas in a series connection, even a single faulty appliance would cause other devices to work abnormally or most probably won't let the other appliances work.
labyrinth:
Bonus : As the voltages in the parallel circuit are same, the appliances will not experience any voltage drop as in series connected appliances. Hence the proper working of the appliances is taken care of.

Answer:
Explanation:
Advantages of connecting electric device in parallel with a battery instead of series are in following ways :
Current is divided through the electrical devices according to their voltage.
If one device switched off/on then it won't affect other devices.
Each of the devices will get full battery voltage.
Total effective resistance can be reduced of the circuit, by connecting it in parallel combination.
