connecting electric devices in series would be a disadvantage as if one device blows up or is not functioning all the other devises would stop too, whereas in a parallel combination if one device stops working rest would continue to work. the devices are connected  in parallel for the domestic use so if the heater stops working the fan and the rest of devices would continue to work whereas , the bulbs in the christmas lights are connected in series when one stops working the rest of them stop working too.

The Following are the advantages of Joining electrical devices in parallel with a battery.

  • The Potential difference across all appliances is same as that of the battery.
  • If one appliances becomes faulty , current will not pass through that branch. But it will remain running in other branches to ensure the running of other appliances.
  • Different appliances need different current values to work satisfactorily.
