What are the advantages of the desert
Answers
Explanation:
1. There are a lot of organisms specifically adapted to a desert-type environment (cold and hot). A decent part of the biodiversity riches in India comes from the Thar desert and the Ladakh cold desert.
2. It’s a great tourist attraction. Deserts have held the fascination of man for many years, and these two deserts in India attract many tourists across the population spectrum.
3. It’s a section of land, if accessible, can be made productive with the right methodologies. For example, parts of the arid Savannah of Brazil was converted into land for agriculture by using a combination of smart agricultural practices and crops made to survive in harsh conditions (however, it needs to be done properly. In the above example, sand dunes posed a major problem and resulted in huge losses, because the advice of geomorphologists was not taken seriously.)
4. It is a great place to harness wind and solar energy. Virtually the entire state of Rajasthan can be powered by wind and solar energy from the Thar desert, if serious efforts were taken to fulfill this potential.
5. Even though the conditions are harsh, it is home for many people in the world. The entire country of Israel is basically on a desert. People living in deserts do face problems, but they have adapted and learnt to deal with these problems.
