Transplantation:-

For certain crops such as rice ( paddy) , tomato , onion , chilli etc . seeds are not directly sown in a main Fields . In such cases , the seeds are firstly sown in a small seed- bed callled nursery.

When the seedlings ( new plants ) have 4-5 leaves , then the healthy seedlings are transferred into the main filed.

Advantages of transplantation :

Transplantation method has the following advntages -

1) Transplantation enables selective cultivation of healthy seedling. This results in better crop production.

2) Transplantation permits better root penetration into the soil.

3) Transplantation allows better shoot development.
