Energy efficiency is the process by which usage of energy can be minimized by adopting efficient techniques and methods. Today energy efficiency is being practiced by the use of LEDs and less power consuming electrical appliances etc.
In the past there were several ways to save energy. Houses were built with special arrangements so that sunlight can reach effectively on each and every part of the rooms. Air ventilation system was amazing still can be seen in ancient buildings. Rooms have about 20 feet height and with windows and ventilators so that air can pass easily. Those houses were cool in summers and warm in winters.
Fossil fuels were less common for usage in demestic purposes. No concept of air conditioners and refrigerators which are responsible for chaloro flouro carbons causing increase in temperature and ozone depletion. Natural cold and warmth were used to preserve meat and vegetables etc. for different purposes.
