Exchange energy is the energy released when two or more electrons with the same spinexchange their positions in the degenerate orbitals of a subshell. Let's assume an atom in which there are 5 unpaired electrons(ie one unpaired electron in each one ) in its n d-orbital.

Exchange energy is the energy released when two or more electrons exchange their positions in an atom
Let's consider an atom which has 3 electrons paired single type. Then as electrons always moves in an atom they get more space around the nucleus and replusive force is less experienced by electrons due to it gets stability
Electrons exchange their positions to get more space for their movement in degenerate orbitals i.e. orbitals having same energies this leads to extra stability because due to this property electrons faces less replusion
