Sonar equipment play a crucial role in number of project and has a vast range if practical uses .Her is the list of uses of this instrument at sea surface and other purposes. SONAR devices are used for seabed surveys, investigations that are to be done underwater and most important  seabed mapping.

Various Surveys in shallow waters

With the help of  multibeam sonar or echo sounders we can make  for bathymetric surveys easily .This gives more accurate results as the number of soundings used today to produce a sea chart has increased significantly so it gives more accurate position of rocks and reefs .

For Pipeline inspections

To do  inspections of Pipelines is performed by high frequency side scan sonar. For eg. There are many  oil and gas companies in the Danish and UK sectors of the North Sea where annual pipeline surveys is done by using a towed side scan sonar.With the help of these  we come to know about the leakage , rock dump integrity and any other  possible damage.

For Search and rescue missions

 

Various  side scan sonar systems are  used by search and rescue teams (or SAR). A  scanning sonar is deployed on a tripod and it makes a perfect and effective  combined tool.

When  the target is detected with the help of side scan sonar ,we use it to guide the rescue diver to the site where the recovery is required . This is the best option in that cases where the  visibility is close to zero .
