- The Vijayanagar’s ruler made many innovations in architectural traditions. They added many new features in temple architecture. These big structures were demonstration of their imperial authority.
- For example, they made gopuram and royal doors. Ministers of the central shrines have indicated the presence of the temple from a great distance. But the royal entrances extended them from the height. They reminded the power of kings. They showed that the kings had complete command over resources, techniques and skills.
- The rulers of Vijayanagara also made a pavilion. Apart from this, there were long and pillars of corridors which used to go around the shrines. The two main temples Virupaksha Temple and Vitthal Mandir. Virupaksha temple was built for centuries. It was constructed in the 9th-10th century. But after the establishment of the Vijayanagara Empire, it had grown to a great extent.
