The basic differences between Maslows and McClellands Theory of needs are as follows :

Maslow's theory is based on the assumption that people are motivated by a series of five universal needs which are classified as :

(i) Psychological needs

(ii) Safety news

(iii) Belongingness and love needs

(iv) Esteem needs

(v) Self actualization needs

But according to McClelland's people are driven by three motives namely :

(i) Achievement

(ii) Affiliation

(iii) Power

Also, according to Maslow's theory, one need emerges only if the previous one is satisfied.

But, according to McClelland's theory, the specified needs can appear collectively.
