What is the difference between aggressive nationalism and defensive nationalism?

A must-attend free conclave for every civil services aspirant.

Aggressive nationalism are nationalism which aspires to take and colonise land from other countries. Some variants even aspire to take over the world for their countries, making them no better than those supporting aggressive internationalism. Examples include National Socialism (Nazis), Italian Fascism and Neo-Ottomanism.

Defensive nationalism are nationalism which aspires to defend or liberate their countries from aforementioned aggressions and colonisations, whether said attacker are nationalist, internationalist or somewhere in between. Examples include Metaxism (a variant of Greek nationalism), Irish Nationalism, and the various other anti-colonialist movements throughout the world.
