Following are the basic assumptions in Idea of democracy:

Majority of the people know what is good for the whole of the society.

Power makes corrupt and absolute power makes corrupt absolutely. Therefore powers should be decentralised.

Law and rule is not the creation of some divine power but result of social contract.

All people are members of some minority groups but all people can form majority by identifying their interests with some other minority groups.

Individuals are free but they should exercise this freedom keeping in mind that all individuals are free.

I have the right to criticize you. You have the right to criticize me. We both have the right to oppose our criticism.

Whatever I create with my body and brain is my property but i have to acknowledge that my individual efforts were not sufficient to create that property and therefore i should pay for whatever help i get from other members of society.

Every member of the society has a privacy. No one can encroach one’s privacy if one is not harming freedom and property of other
