Back cross is the cross that involves the mating of the F1 hybrid with one of its parent. It can be explained with this example. Suppose a homozygous tall plant having genotype TT is crossed with the homozygous small plant having genotype tt, then their hybrid will be Tt (F1 plant). Now back cross is crossing this Tt individual with either TT or tt individual.
Test cross is a cross in which an individual with an unknown dominant phenotype is crossed with an individual (parent) homozygous recessive for that trait. Test cross determines whether the dominant character is coming from homozygous dominant genotype or heterozygous genotype. Thus it is more useful than back cross.

Back cross:- If we have to take advantage of the well known superior parent, then we cross the offspring of felial generation (F1) with one of its best parent of superior genetic Constitution, this is advantage of back cross to carry on superior genes to next generation.
Test cross::- To get know about whether a particular animal or plant is homozygous dominant or heterozygous, we cross it to homozygous recessive individuals, and if we get all the offsprings of same phenotype, then the individual is homozygous dominant and if we get 50% offsprings of one type and 50% offsprings of other type, then, the individual is heterozygous. So it's just to test the genotype of any individual. You are always welcome to ask about Genetics & Breeding
It's my pleasure.
