Positive Effects of Feudalism !

What is Feudalism?

Feudalism is the social system which existed in the Middle Ages in Europe, in which people worked and fought for a person who owned land and received land and protection from him in return.

Political benefits:

Created a stable government system.

Decentralization of power compared to the Roman Empire.

More land owned by local Kings, Lords and Nobles.

Increased security for all from outside threats:

Less war required.

More loyalty.

Land leases were transferred to first born sons

Hereditary system empowered women as the “the voice of reason”.

Economic Benefits:

Stability allowed for prosperity and growth:

“The rich got richer”

Less resources spent on war creating more wealth.

Job specialization occurred:

Blacksmiths,

Cobblers,

Tailors and

Bakers, instead of just farmers or fighters.

Market economy begins as people start to barter their services.

Social Benefits:

Stability allowed prosperity across generations:

Families started to have history.

It was important for sons to be born to maintain land.

Land stability allowed peasant families to have long term employment.

Loyalty of the Knights preserved peace.

Conclusions:

Feudalism provided many positive benefits especially compared to the previous government system of the Roman Empire.

A decentralized government or more local Kings and Nobles had increased stability.

Stability increased wealth and jobs; and through job specialization began the market economy.

There was less war as outsiders had to fight locals who cared more than when they were fighting for Rome.

In exchange for their services and loyalty, families had life long access to land and employment.
