1)If you learn Hindi, you are simultaneously learning Urdu too for all practical purposes. Hindi is not my native language and I learned Hindi and in the process informally learned Urdu too, the national language of Pakistan. Along with Urdu, Hindi has about 310 million speakers for whom it is a native language and another 300 million people for whom it is a second language who at least understand it.

2)It is spread over a wide contiguous region (North India and Pakistan, and some parts of West and South India too)

3)Along with China, India is poised to become a great military and economic power in the coming decades which will make it impossible for this part of the world to be ignored.

4)Since most of these Hindi speaking Indians will know some English at least if not be proficient at it, your contacts with them will be even easier. You and Hindi speaking Indians can meet each other halfway. If, instead of Hindi, you choose the language of a country where no one knows English, contacts with such people will be very difficult for you, much more than contacts and interaction with Hindi speakers.

5)If for any reason, you need to communicate with the Indian masses in a language other then English, and cast your net over as large a linguistic group as possible, Hindi gives you an opportunity that is unmatched except Mandarin, Spanish and Arabic.

Let’s say you have a political speech/message and wish to translate it into various languages. Or you have produced a great film, or written a great book and wish to translate it into a language, that spreads the message around the world. Choosing Hindi as one of the languages gives you much more benefit to cost ratio than choosing most of the other languages except Mandarin and Spanish.

If you wish to advertise your product and inform the maximum number of people around the world, choose Hindi as one of the languages.

Hindi newspapers have the widest collective readership in India.

Hindi films and Hindi books have the maximum readership in India.

To make a political impact on the masses, speaking in Hindi to the Indian people enables you to spread your message to more people than by using any other language.

And finally, even if you put aside politics, commercial/ economic significance, and wish to learn a language for its own sake, you will not regret learning Hindi.

It’s script is scientific, ensuring that you learn to read and write it faster than Non English speakers who struggle with English and its irregular spelling, or English speakers learning Chinese/Arabic/Japanese etc. Hindi has some great literature available for savouring. It is the language that is the most popular in Indian TV and some great films have been made in Hindi which you can enjoy.

I join all my fellow Hindi loving Indians in inviting and encouraging you to learn Hindi.

❣️Jai Hind.❣️
