Avoid places where there are high concentration of fumes as they are toxic especially if you have a respiratory condition like sinusitis, common cold, asthma, allergic bronchitis etc.

Consult your doctor well before festivities begin so that he can increase medication or suggest precautionary ones to counter the increased pollution due to the firecrackers and other pollutants. Post Diwali care is equally important as the dust and polluting particles require about a week to settle down completely.

Increased noise pollution can lead to annoyance, hypertension and stress in the elderly. Stay indoors to avoid noise pollution as it may result in tiredness, headache, loss of appetite and sleep and even visual impairment in some cases.

Do not indulge on sugary and oily foods especially if you suffer from diabetes and high blood pressure. Such foods cause acidity and indigestion too. So be very careful while eating sweets and fried foods and stick more to fruits and nuts as they are a healthier option.

Drink plenty of water as it will keep you full and hydrated during festivities.

If you plan to visit relatives during the festival, do not forget to keep your medicines and take them regularly.

Exercise indoors. Diwali festivities go on for 5days usually and you may not be able to go for your regular morning walk due to the pollution. Do some light exercises at home to compensate for the same.
