A population explosion is the rapid increase in the population. When applied to a country, it could result from increased number of children born or larger than usual immigration. For the world as a whole, it is a large increase in the birth rate, i.e. the “Baby Boom” after Word War II. On average, it takes 2.1 children per woman to keep the population constant. More than that and the population increases while less than that and the population decreases. At present, most of the developed world is having a population implosion as the birth rate is below the replacement rate. Europe is averaging a birth rate of 1.5, Japan is 1.4, China 1.6, India 2.4 and the U.S. is 1.9. World average is 2.5 with almost all of the increase coming from Africa and Asia. (Numbers are from World Bank 2016).

There are many...
Social causes: People with dogmatic thinking have a desire of male child. Also, birth of child is considered as boon. Child marriage is also a major cause.

Economic cause: Poor people have a hope that their children would overcome their problems in future. Also, children are considered as hands that will make their jobs easy.

Illiterate people does not have enough knowledge about family planning that checks the increase in population.
