The adopted son of Rani of Jhansi was not recognised as the new ruler and his claim on his state of Jhansi was denied by the British under the Doctrine of Lapse, devised by Lord Dalhousie and similarly the adopted son of Peshwa Baji Rao ll, Nana Sahib was also denied his claim on his state.
