Hello mat,

Here is your answer,

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In Uttarakhand, during the 20th-century large scale deforestation was carried around due to inefficient policies of the then government and also due to lack of environmental and ecological awareness in the society.

n organized resistance to the destruction of forests spread throughout India and came to be known as the Chipko movement.

The name of the movement comes from the word 'embrace', as the villagers hugged the trees, and prevented the contractors' from felling them.

this movement, therefore, has awakened people to the importance of conserving trees as it helps the ecosystem of a nation to function properly and also it aids the livelihood of people to live healthily and have a prosperous life.

here is ur answer

The Chipko movement or Chipko Andolanwas a forest conservation movement in India where people prevent trees from being cut down. It began in April 1973 in Reni village of Chamoli district, Uttarakhand and went on to become a rallying point for many future environmental movements all over the world. It created a precedent for starting ofnonviolent protest in India, and its success meant that the world immediately took notice of this non-violent movement, which was to inspire in time many such eco-groups by helping to slow down the rapid deforestation, expose vested interests, increase ecological awareness, and demonstrate the viability of people power. Above all, it stirred up the existing civil society in India, which began to address the issues of tribal and marginalized people. The Chipko Andolan is a movement that practised methods of Satyagraha where both male and female activists from Uttarakhand played vital roles, includingGaura Devi, Suraksha Devi, Sudesha Devi, Bachni Devi and Chandi Prasad Bhatt.
