It is mainly due to wrong assumptions made by kinetic theory of gases .
●it consdered gas atoms having no inter molecular forces.but gases are liquifiable proves this point wrong
●it assumed volume occupied by gas atom negligible.but during high pressure resistance to compression proves this wrong
Thus vanderwaal added correction factors an2/v2 and nb to ideal gas equation to over come its shortcomings for real gases.
