Answer:
Historians have been debating this subject for decades but generally the following reasons are given for Hitler’s defeat:
1. Hitler’s often erratic behaviour, leading to erratic decisions, that became progressively worse during the course of the war.
2. Hitler’s failure to defeat the British before invading the Soviet Union.
3. Putting off the invasion of the Soviet Union until the end of June 1941. Had Operation Barbarossa been launched in May 1941 as originally intended the Germans would’ve captured Moscow before the winter set in.
4. The brutal occupation policies. Mass exterminations and brutal persecutions not only encouraged partisans to emerge that tied down hundreds of thousands of German soldiers but such policies also encouraged their opponents to fight to the death rather than surrender. The need for rail transportation to deport Jews to the death camps also denied the German military vital rolling stock and railway lines. It also cost them valuable support from groups within the Soviet Union who would’ve otherwise supported the Germans.
5. Hitler’s declaration of war against the USA. When the USA entered the Second World War they had only declared war on Japan. If Hitler had not declared war on the USA the Americans would not have entered the conflict against them, at least not immediately anyway.
6. Hitler’s decision to divert troops to Leningrad and the Ukraine during the drive to Moscow. Granted, the Germans captured millions of Soviet prisoners of war by doing so but it delayed the drive towards Moscow so by the time it resumed it was too late.
