River pollution in India is caused by:

=> Untreated waste disposal by factories.

=> Dumping of solid waste and litter in water bodies is a hige contributor to pollution.

=> Bathing and washing clothes in river is a major problem with Indians.

=> Fertilisers and pesticides gets washed away with heavy showers during monsoons into the nearby rivers.

=> Most cremation grounds in India are located on the banks of rivers. The human cavadors(asthiyaan) cause severe pollution.
