In developed embryo sac there are 7 cells, which are formed after 2,4,8 nucleate stages leading to formation of the typical female gametophyte or embryo sac.
- three cells are grouped together at the micropylar end and constitute the egg apparatus. The egg apparatus in turns constits of 2 synergids and one egg cell.
- three cells are at the chalazal end and are called the antipodal.
- the remaining 2 cells called polar nuclei located at the centre. The two cells fuse to form a large central cell .
thus a typical angiosperm embryo sac,at maturity,though 8-nucleate is 7-celled.
