Shortage of Raw Material. Despite of the Government efforts to increase area under Jute, India is not self sufficient in raw material.

Obsolete Mills and Machinery.

Competition.

Decrease in the Demand.

(i) In 2005, the National Jute Policy was formulated with the objective of increasing production.

(ii) Efforts would be made to improve production and introduce some new products of Jute-like fabric.

(iii) Government can ensure good prices to the Jute farmers, enhancing the yield per hectare.
