The Chalyukas ruled over large parts of the Deccan from the 6th to 8th century CE. Their capital was at Badami or Vapati. The most famous ruler of this dynasty was Pulakesin II. Under him the change up and kingdoms stretched from the river Narmada to river Kaveri.
