Answer:

  1. Till nineties, the election is about canvassing through loudspeakers in a four wheeler, local meetings or street corner meetings, handouts, propaganda msterials, banners, buntings, cutouts, etc. Those days TV ads, print ads in News papers, etc., we're not in vogue. Big rallies were rare and indulged in only by Congress because it was the only party which can successfully conduct such rallies. Those days there was no much a sing of crowds. They used to be voluntary.
  2. From nineties onwards rallies, roadshows, TV debates, became more pronounced. The defacing of walls, banners, cutouts, etc., though continued have got reduced to a great extent. After 2009 it has stopped completely.
  3. After 2014 the election trend has changed completely. Most of the speeches are available in YouTube and the people are aware of the same. Also social media, twitter, whatsapp, etc., is making election revolutionary. Even if the top leaders give few speeches the entire population come to know of the same through the YouTube. They experience it as if they are in the meeting. Technology has penatrated the election to a great extent. Now defacing of walls are completely eliminated. Also Modi used holograms to address dozens of meetings at a time.
  4. Now before every election all parties create a war room where many IT men will be studying all the speeches of opposition and prepare their own replies. These technical persons will study the social order of each locality or constituency, the caste configuration, income levels, etc., to prepare the contestants to meet their aspirations. The present elections are more technology oriented and also too complicated.
